An Announcement
Considering that I have now expanded my product list beyond just my books, I have been asked by several people when I may start accepting credit card sales on my web-site. The answer to that question is not straightforward.
There are two options for me to consider regarding the acceptance of credit cards directly on my website: first option is to set up a Pay-pal account and run all transactions through that service. I have considered this option at length and have decided that it is not good. First, for those who are not as abreast of internet goings on as I am, Pay-pal has had and continues to have issues regarding security and from the sellers standpoint is not very friendly. Through Pay-pal, all responsibility is placed on the seller as far as refunds to the point where the seller is obligated for six months after the sale regardless of product condition. This is in addition to the fact that Pay-pal charges the seller a fee for each transaction. The other option would be for me to have a SSL page on the site.
In order for me to have an SSL page I would first have to buy an SSL certificate through Godaddy (my host) which is an additional $70.00 per year. Then I would have to subscribe to an additional service through my bank in order to link the sales to the web-site securely; this would be an additional $15 per month fee. Then there are also fees charged to the seller by credit card companies which are usually 2% to as much as a 5% of the sale amount, depending on the credit card used by the buyer.
All of these additional fees regularly imposed on the seller for doing business on the internet make it cost prohibitive for me. Therefore, for the foreseeable future, I will only do business via USPS by check or money order. All contact information can be found on the “contact” page of the site.
Thank you for your understanding and support, T.
